'Bug List'
"Bug List"
Everyday we encounter many small things that may irritate or irk us, but are so busy or do not care to notice these small things. Mindful people, who stop and live in the moment, are more likely to notice these almost microscopic things. I have compiled a list of a few things that have irritated me over the last week along with the reason they are caused. Enjoy!
- 1. When you are skateboarding around campus and people have their face buried into their phones and are taking the entire sidewalk.
- Because people do not think that a skateboarder will be coming behind them, and focus too much on their phones
- 2. The neighbors in the apartment next to me are easily heard because the walls in the Social28 are paper thin
- Because the Social 28 was built quickly to compete with the Standard
- 3. Scooters that go only 20 miles per hour in a 35mph zone
- Because scooters typically only have a 50cc engine, which just barely has enough power to move around at slow traffic speeds and are affordable to most students
- 4. The lack of emotion that is transmitted through text and how things can be misinterpreted through text
- Because the format of text removes most human expression and only relies on cold sentences and hard to distinguish cues in tone
- 5. When listening to music and walking with phone in pocket, body heat from leg will interact with phone
- Because no technology is perfect
- 6. That my fire alarm goes off when cooking because the engineers at the Social28 decided to put the fired detector above the stovetop
- Because the building is afraid of a cooking fire turning into a problem that could burn the multi-million dollar building down
- 7. People not moving out of the way for an Ambulance or any other service vehicle
- Because people view themselves as more important than an ambulance and don’t move out of the way
- 8. The ‘can you hear me’ phase of any phone or skype call
- Because technology is not perfect
- 9. How slow walking is relative to the size of the campus
- The physical limitations of the human body, but our need to build in cities that grow in huge sizes
- 10. How Disney took down Club Penguin and replaced it with an inferior version and then took that version down as well
- Main staple of my childhood is gone, even though I haven’t played on it for years
- 11. How packaging does not represent the actual product inside
- Because advertisers want to sell the product and create a more appealing visual product
- 12. When people on dates stare at their phones instead of socializing
- Because cell phones are addicting, and it is easy to retreat to the cellphone
- 13. How hard it is to get multiple people to hang out with different schedules
- Because people have very different schedules and finding a time that works for everybody is almost impossible
- 14. How certain YouTubers make quality content but only have a small amount of subscribers
- Because YouTube wants to showcase the videos that will appeal to more people, also due to their algorithm
- 15. How quick dining restaurants leave an area for tip but only rang up your order.
- Because you don’t feel that the cashier has worked for the money, but feel obligated to tip
- 16. Cars with extremely loud stereos, so much so that the car shakes
- Because people want to share their music with the world
- 17. How when you are bored time passes 10 times slower than normal
- Because when you are having fun or are busy, time passes many times faster
- 18. Gas station toilets that you must buy stuff for
- Because the standard is to have a free bathroom, but gas stations do not want to become a public restroom
- 19. People that cut in line and pretend like it is no deal
- Because people have waited but some feel that they can enter in all the chaos of a line
- 20. When the hot water runs out when taking a shower
- Because the hot water is the only reason for taking a shower
I found this project to be relatively easy. I am the CEO and
Founder of a six-person startup and have been noticing the small disturbances
for years. That is how my company was born as well. I keep a list of all of my
ideas that come to me in the most random of times, so I feel that I have been
preparing for this project for the last 2 years of my journey so far.
Thank you for reading!

ReplyDeleteI agree wholeheartedly with all the things that bug you about technology. Technology being so heavily relied upon but at the same time so imperfect can make life a hassle. Although it is meant to solve issues, it can end up bringing totally new ones into our lives. For example, Skype was created to make communication over long distances easier, but instead it just takes away the excitement of seeing others in person and can make phone calls and conversations more difficult because of connection and systematic issues. Phones are like little computers in our pockets, but because of the way they're made they cause a danger to everyone carrying them, they can overheat and stop functioning and in some cases explode, expose us to radiation, and if they break they can cut us or electrocute us.
ReplyDeleteHey Collin,
ReplyDeleteI liked how specific and detailed your bugs were. Some of my favorites were “The ‘can you hear me’ phase of any phone or skype call” and “How certain YouTubers make quality content but only have a small amount of subscribers”. These are little things that I haven’t really thought about but, they definitely irritate me. You had many bugs about technology, and I think most of us can relate to those. Is your startup in relation to technology?
